The PDS Empty Bowls Project!

Thursday, January 20, 2011

Artwork by Owen Jackson

Yet, O LORD, you are our Father. We are the clay, you are the potter; we are all the work of your hand.
Isaiah 64:8

In the Art Room we have been sculpting bowls after bowls to help raise awareness and money to help feed the hungry. All of the children have been so sweet and giving of their artwork. I have been labeling all of the pots so that the artist's parents can find their masterpieces with ease. As I have been picking up each pot to label I can see each wonderful child and their kindness for others in their hearts through their bowls. I'm so proud of the hard work and dedication the kids have given through this service project. When you take home your precious handmade bowl it will remind you of all the empty bowls around the world. Thank you for all of your support and donations for feeding the hungry.
Sincerely,
 Mrs. Tatum

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!

2010 was such a great year, and at PDS we had a blast in Art Class! Not only did the students have fun, but the teachers did too! We all got together for our Christmas Party and made pinch pots, and some even got on the wheel!
Diane Burd, our artistic principal, is centering the clay on the wheel! She is a natural!

Mrs. Burd is starting to form the beautiful plate she made!

I wanted to share with everyone how much fun we had at our PDS Faculty Christmas Party! It is so wonderful to work with such sweet teachers who appreciate the arts!

Creativity!!!!

Each child at PDS is so creative! They amaze me with what they come up with when they are drawing. I admire their imaginations!!! PDS students created wonderful magnet designs this year, and we just finished them up last week. This week we worked on poster designs! It was so much fun! I must give all the students a hand for all of their hard work! Next week 4-k and 5-k are going to make more pottery, and 1st-6th grade are going to glaze their pottery! All of the students have become such great PDS potters!!!!!

Painting Pottery and Sketching out our Magnet Designs!!!!

We have been busy in the art room! It has been so much fun painting pottery. Also, we are getting started on our designs for the magnets that go out each year. The students have been carefully sketching out their pictures with pencils before they start to color! PDS is just so full of talented little artists!!!

Pottery!

Wow, we have been running the kiln a bunch at PDS! It is so exciting! All of the pottery has to be fired once before we can paint glaze on the pots. The 6th graders have been my pottery helpers. They have loaded and unloaded the kiln with me.All of the children have learned so much about the pottery process. Pottery Pics will be posted soon! Can't wait to see the finished pots!!!!!
